PRESS BRIEFING AND REMARKS BY THE DIRECTOR-
GE
NERAL OF NATIONAL GALLERY OF ART,
NIGERIA AT THE NATIONAL COMMISSION FOR
MUSE
UMS AND MONUMENTS, ONIKAN, LAGOS ON
12TH DECEMBER 2012 IN RESPECT OF THE 5TH
EDITION OF INTERNATIONAL ARTEXPO, LAGOS.
I welcome you all to the press briefing in respect of the 5th edition
of Intern
ational Artexpo Lagos billed to hold from 17th 26th
December, 2012 at the premises of National Commission for
Museum
s and Monuments, Onikan, Lagos. The event which is to
be chaired by Sammy Olagbaju, an art collector, as with the
pre
vious editions will present creative art works of many artists
through 22 art galleries from within and outside the country.
The package this year is going to be unique, unique in the sense
that th
e National Gallery of Art (NGA), Nigeria and the (Art
Galleri
es Association of Nigeria (AGAN) agreed to use it to
honour a renowned Nigerian printmaker, Bruce Onobrakpeya who
is currently celebrating a season of his 80th birthday. In doing this,
we have carved out the biggest booths to accommodate works
represent
ing each of the techniques in his printmaking for public
viewing.
May I use this forum to inform you that NGA has been part of his
celebration, hence in addition to support in other areas, it packaged
and published a comprehensive exhibition brochure entitled Bruce
Onobrakpeya: Footprint of a Master Artist which accompanied his
exhibition at Skoto Gallery, New York, U.S.A. The Gallery and
AGAN wi
sh him a happy birthday celebration and many, many
years of  good health ahead.

As with the previous editions, the brochure for this year's edition
will be rich as it will discuss generally forms of fine art.
Such information is useful not only for the teaching of art at all levels, but of benefit to stakeholders and the general public. The expectation is not to fall bellow the standard of what have been done as we are working towards making every edition richer.

Once more, I welcome and wish you a successful coverage of the event.
Thank you.
